Obtain/Develop Content - Design Layout - Create Functionality - Promote the Site Server set-up - Maintain the Site
InfoMatters first approaches their client's business issues as businesspersons, not as technologists. Only after we understand your unique needs and objectives do we turn to technology for the appropriate solution.
These are the fundamental steps to creating a website.
Obtain/Develop Content
Getting quality content is crucial to the success of a website. This is the most important step in creating a website. You may use existing content from printed brochures, electronic brochures, news releases, newsletters, technical documentation, trade show blurbs, presentation snippets, or any other information you want to share with your guests. Content also includes graphics, photographs, links to other sites, animations and, if there are no bandwidth constraints, sounds, movies and 3D. Obtaining standard verbiage (copyright and trademark notices, legal disclaimers, about this site, etc.) are also included in this step.
Design Layout
The first thing we do is convert informative text to HTML (the standard programming language of the World Wide Web) and lay it out in a way that maximizes it as media. InfoMatters has the tools it takes to make background images and graphics look their best and maintain cross platform compatibility. We can add a Dynamic Boilerplate (a standard header and footer which can include the date last updated, URL, Visitor IP address, counters, etc.). Through a well thought out human interface design we maintain ease of navigation.
Create Functionality
Clients go to significant lengths to create a site with quality content. Quality content is what brings your users back to your site. Unfortunately, this content can become obsolete very quickly and can be quite a chore to maintain. We distinguish ourselves from the rest by creating dynamic, database-driven sites.
What's New, for example, is automatically maintained because it is updated when items are added to any of the sites' databases. Because the site is database driven it is easy to search the site contents or the databases. The site can also be set up to allow your visitors to sit back and take an automated tour (slide show) of your site, show them changing banners that can be used to advertise a product or service, different parts of the site or display random quotes from other visitors. Time-based messages may be set up. For example, a greeting of " Good morning" and " Good evening" would be displayed appropriately. You can collect visitor opinion of your site via email or a feedback form where visitors can rank each page's "Subject Area" and "Content" on a 1 to 5 scale. We offer an online conferencing system.
Notify visitors when changes occur with ChangeNotifier, or with a calendar/event list notify your visitors of important dates. For fun provide interactive games. Other options are online shopping and chat rooms.
First, site promotion should be done through traditional media by including your web address on newsletter mastheads, business cards, mailers, invoices, statements, in print and broadcast advertising, etc.. Use traditional media to promote your internet site wherever and whenever possible. For instance, launch a traditional press release announcing your site's URL.
Second, online promotions are a crucial component of popular sites. InfoMatters can help you:
* Register your site with various search engines. We can also help weight your pages to appear closer to the top of "hit lists" by including special HTML codes with optimized keywords and descriptions.* Put together "site of the day" voting promotions.
* Leverage free opportunities for hot links and directory placements.
* Monitor and participate in forums, online publications and discussions.
* Evaluate sponsorship and paid advertising possibilities.
* Measure promotional effectiveness of online activities; generate logs and statistics characterizing online visitors.
